(IR2.1) SHACKLER R7 BATTLECRUISER (BC):
The Shackler R7 Battlecruiser was a swift, maneuverable vessel which inspired great fear in its adversaries. Equipped with Two Energy Spark Rings, Two Subspace Rockets, and Six Offensive Quantum Phasers, the Shackler R7 Battlecruiser was capable of delivering crushing blows to the enemies of its era. The starship was noted for ample reserve power, low overall power generation, minimal structural integrity, and weak shields. Regardless, the Shackler R7 Battlecruiser formed the bedrock of the Shackler Fleet, performing a variety of functions, the most primary of which was combat.
DESIGNER NOTES:
The Shackler R7 Battlecruiser takes the Klingon Early Years Cruiser, infuses it with Omega Technology, and brings that technology up to General War Standards. While on the surface the Shackler R7 Battlecruiser may seem like simply a Klingon carrying different weaponry, an in-depth anaysis of its tactics shows it to be much more.
To begin with, the Subspace Rockets the Shackler R7 Battlecruiser carries are not drone-like seeking weapons. They are very slow direct-fire weapons which can potentially score more damage than an overloaded photon. A Klingon starship could never generate that kind of destructive power with its Disruptor Bolts, even when overloaded.
Secondly, the Energy Spark Rings carried by the Shackler R7 Battlecruiser balance out the heavy handed punishment dished out by the Subspace Rockets. Without the Qixavalor Cloud, Energy Spark Rings are diminished to a damage level on par with Standard Disruptor Bolts. However, Energy Spark Rings require two turns to arm, so their output is actually halved in comparison to a Disruptor which can fire every turn.
The Quantum Phasers employed by the Shackler R7 Battlecruiser have a damage output level roughly equivalent to a PH-2.
However, the minimal Power Curve of the Shackler R7 Battlecruiser must be carefully considered. Because the Shackler R7 Battlecruiser is based on the Klingon Early Years Cruiser (and not a General War Battlecruiser), it is deficient on Power. This means it will struggle to arm its powerful weapons. In order to arm all of its weapons, the Shackler R7 Battlecruiser will have to significantly slow down. This actually makes the Shackler R7 Battlecruiser interesting to fly, because it forces the Captain to choose between Speed and Firepower, depending on the specific tactical situation.
And so the Shackler R7 Battlecruiser, the dreaded archenemy of the Keepers, enters the Olde Kingdom (Inverse Space). Which of these two hated opponents will have the advantage in one-on-one combat? Are Tachyon Guns and Tachyon Missiles a match for powerful Subspace Rockets and slow arming Energy Spark Rings? Are Quantum Phasers enough to stop huge Tachyon Missiles from striking? It is an interesting conflict that can only be decided by the wits and guile of each Battlefield Captain.
