Star Fleet Battles – Keeper Deep Space Scout SSD Olde Kingdom Inverse Space

INVERSE SPACE

OLDE KINGDOM

KEEPER SHIPS
(IR1.2) KEEPER DEEP SPACE SCOUT (DSS):

The Keeper Deep Space Scout was created to penetrate deep into the furthest reaches of unexplored space in the Olde Kingdom. The small starship was designed to be self sufficient, eliminating the need to constantly return to bases. The Keeper Deep Space Scout was equipped with Two Special Sensors, Six Laboratories, Two Probes, and a plethora of energy to power multiple tasks at once. A pair of Offensive Wide Phasers and a single Defensive Wide Phaser provided defense should any kind of hostile situation arise.

The Keeper Deep Space Scout was one of the first starships to incorporate the Keeper Wing Design, which Keeper Engineers promised were more energy efficient during non-combat functions. The saucer section on the Keeper Deep Space Scout does not separate.

The Keeper Deep Space Scout never served in fleet combat due to its fragility and high cost to produce.

DESIGNER NOTES:

For the Keepers, I wanted to create a brand new starship that did not fit neatly into any standard Class Type. And so the Keeper Deep Space Scout was born. Not quite a Frigate, not quite a Destroyer, and not quite a Scout, it is a mix of all three.

While a good percentage of the Olde Kingdom is explored, with each empire claiming their own prospective territory, there are still pockets of unexplored space of large and small sizes. Some of these unexplored areas border Keeper Space, facilitating the need for a starship such as the Deep Space Scout.

The original plan was to give the Keeper Deep Space Scout a pair of PW-2’s for defense, along with a 360 PW-3. However, after checking the Omega Rulebook, I was surprised to find that a PW-2 was never created! Perhaps Bruce intended to create it later or maybe he never had the time. I believe there should be such a Phaser, as it is highly unlikely the PW-3 would have just jumped to a PW-1 with no transition in-between.

For this SSD, I simply gave the Keeper Deep Space Scout a pair of PW-1’s to expedite the solution. Creating an important weapon like a PW-2 should not be rushed, as it will form the foundation for many future ships to use it. In the future, I will set aside the time to properly create the table for the PW-2, allowing future Keeper starships to use the Phaser.

I also considered adding some non-combat functions to the Special Sensors, but since this was not the First or Last Sector (which add many new Rules), I chose not to. The Inverse Space Design Paradigm calls for te use of existing rules, as is, without modification.
