“This is not possible.”
Captain Vishanarayama stared at the pictures taken by Crewman Hampton. Even through the rain, he could make out the names on the tombstones. Captain Lameoux, First Officer Somers, Science Officer Ellenbark, Communications Officer Yam, Helmsman Winters, Navigator Springer and more. “This is the crew of the Yurei, the first Keeper Deep Space Scout to enter the Well of Souls. How could they possibly be buried on the planet…?” Captain Vishanarayama whispered to himself.
Captain Vishanarayama, Teko, the Beholder’s Science Officer and First Officer, Mabel, the Beholder’s Communications Officer, Eyug, the Beholder’s mute Navigator who communicates through psionic pictures, Crewmen Torres, and Crewman Hampton were in the Beholder’s Briefing Room, discussing what happened to the landing party on Planet Grave. Everyone was present except for Crewman Silvia who went to Sickbay due to feeling unwell.
“It would seem to imply that the entire crew of the Yurei is dead,” Teko stated plainly. “And yet we found no wreckage, no crash landing site, no signs of a battle, no other bodies, and nothing in this area of space that indicates the starship Yurei was destroyed.”
“Something is not right here,” Captain Vishanarayama said with dread in his voice. His third eye closed momentarily. “In fact, there are many things not right about all of this. The planet full of graves, the lack of living beings, this dense area of ‘space’, the fact that none of our electronics works on the planet, the subspace cries of terror that have now begun to scream ‘Leave Now!’, and the complete disappearance of the Keeper Deep Space Scout Yurei. It would seem we have worn out our welcome in the Well of Souls. Keeper Command sent us to find out what happened to the crew of the Yurei. I believe we have done that. The pictures speak for themselves. Let them sort out the details after we get home. Right now, my priority is keeping this crew safe.”
Captain Vishanarayama opened a channel to the Bridge. “Robba, set a course out of the Well of Souls and back to…”
“Captain! We have an emergency! Crewman Silvia appears to have gone mad! She grabbed a laser scalpel and attacked everyone in Sickbay!!”
“What?!?? Send Security Chief Dolmen immediately with a squad of Security Officers! Where is Crewman Silvia now? What is the current status in Sickbay??”
“CAPTAIN…EVERYONE IN SICKBAY IS DEAD.”
